I'm very familiar with mental illness, mostly from a gal that I dated for 4 years who had type-2 rapid-cycling bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Sweetest person that you could ever meet. Not to butt in. I have experience with a brother who developed horrible Agoraphobia at 16, LSS, he had an undiagnosed heart condition and kept passing out, they kept brushing him off, treated him for psych disorders and basically created a psychosis where none had existed. I don't know that he will ever be alright. Lives 2 doors down and 3 days ago was the first he came outside and spoke to me in 8 years!
