I guess I don't understand why people care if something like that is over hyped or advertised. Does that really effect how much or why you like something? (I'm not arguing with you specifically.)

I like things I like because I like them! I think it is okay for others to like the things that they like, as much or as little as they want.

Did the quality go down once the media got ahold of it?

The media hype would have affected and probably diminished the show for me. I'm not that particular about saying spoilers ruin a show because that isn't usually my experience. Seeing interviews and articles that delve into every nuance before watching the show is a problem, though.

Initially, the title and font drew me in even though I didn't consciously think about it. I really liked it and how something so seemingly simple really sets the whole mood and tone of the series. I don't think I would have felt that way if I had seen it dissected and discussed in depth before experiencing it for myself.

Dustin and the bully was hard to watch because it was so well done and there was an element of surprise b/c it included something foreign to me. I think I'd have reacted differently had I seen the actor in an interview first.
