Half an hour behind the wheel of a car is half an hour of shaking sweating torture, for me, whereas a half hour's walk is usually pretty nice if you're dressed for the weather.
But yeah, I realize more places aren't pedestrian-friendly than are. I grew up 20 minutes outside a smallish town, and it took 45 minutes every day on the bus just to *get* to school. Words struggle to describe how much I hated it.If you can make it work, that's what counts.

Between my sister and I, I must have got all of the driving genes. She also hates it. I love it. She moved to the Ann Arbor area because she wouldn't have to drive or rely on a roommate to bring her places. I'm the opposite, I would rather jump in my own car, be in control and get to where I need to be. Growing up, my dad was a racecar driver, I couldn't imagine NOT driving, I always wanted to be just like him. That's so funny! My dad drove racecars too when I was growing up. My brother's like you that way, pretty sure he got all the driving genes.
I've never had to do much with public transportation, but I have gotten to the point I hate driving.
SAME. Except I bought my first car at 15 when I only had my learners permit.
I can tell you I have completely overcome my webcam shyness after getting a few paid gigs in (even though only one required use of the webcam to date). I'd still adore a 'Jane Jetson phone mask', but they probably wouldn't let me wear it if I had one.
I love driving too, but when I worked in Seattle it was so much cheaper to take the bus. I didn't mind it for the most part, but I did buy an ipod just so people on the bus wouldn't talk to me. Even if the battery was dead, I would just stick the earbuds in so people wouldn't try to start a conversation.
While I totally get how that'd freak you out, you have to admit that that kind of situation isn't actively life-threatening, the way that 89034934 random situations that can happen suddenly in a car can be.
That's so creepy. Another reason to avoid buses lol
