I spent my $30 I made today on hiring someone to shovel my driveway and sidewalk. Considering our driveway is steeper than a sledding hill (and not as fun when you crash into the garage at the bottom), that was money well spent from a day turking.

Because slicable bread is made in loaf pans. Open loaf pans give you a rounded top, while closed loaf pans make it perfectly square. this maximizes space efficiency, allowing you to store and transport 50% more bread. Flat top loaves were popularized by the pullman train company, who used them for just that reason. Round bread would be much more difficult to bake, due to how the bread rises. It would require round bottomed pans that wouldn't sit correctly in an oven. It would also be more difficult to store and ship.

On the other hand, sandwich meat is mostly sliced sausage. Sausages are round because sausage casings are round. It's easier to fill a round casing than a square one, and edible casings are traditionally made from animal intestines, which are round and not square.
