I was on the Dayton Regional Hazmat team for many years, an officer for 10, while on the fire department. I am sure we'd be called out on this one.
There's a morbid joke about firefighters and cancer. Whatever rare cancer it is, it affects 80 year old women and firefighters. Or it affects 60 plus year people from Pitcairn Island. And firefighters. It's all the shit we breath in.
There's an 800 buck out of pocket screening test for 150+ cancers including the rare ones. I take it religiously every year

this whole situation is a disaster with very long term repercussions, and not just for that immediate area. i found it horrifying that they allowed people back to their homes already and are lying about the extent of exposure. and while i feel bad for the people affected by the earthquakes in turkey, i also find it infuriating that the earthquakes are receiving more coverage in media in america than the actual disaster we have brewing in our own backyard.
