They won't do a payment plan or something?
Yea...she has kidney stone issues, one company is suing her for 12 grand. Once it gets that high I'm pretty sure bankruptcy is the option. Seriously in todays world 1 hospital stay while out of work with a sue happy hospital and you get this.

in 1982 i lived in Dothan Alabama

i asked some locals what was fun to do around there
and they said the circle
so i had to ask the obvious question
what is the circle

and they said "you get in yer car or truck or tractor, and ride around the circle of the town"
which was just driving in the 14 mile wide circumference of the town and yell or yahoo at girls as you ride by them...

true story
I was raised about 20 miles west of Decatur. In the little town Courtland.

Yea I think my GF is going to have to, she is being hit with constant harassment and lawsuits/possible garnishments over medical bills. A friend of mine insists they can't do that for medical bills but I'm like like uh yea dude they can because I'm seeing it.

Apparently at some point in our country medical companies decided they were going to sue people when in the past unpaid medical bills never led to anything.
They won't do a payment plan or something?
:yeahthat:

A lot of times with medical bills, if you get them on the phone, they'll accept lower amounts and/or vanish if you wait long enough (happened for my husband, both scenarios) I know my for my bro it did definitely help them, but they had a TON of other sorts of debt (non medical) so it was a diff situation. She should prob talk to a financial advisor (which I think you have to do for bankruptcy anyhow?) about it. I know it was a process when my bro did it, but it's been a few years.

This is the second time in 3 years a medical company has sent her to collections and it's gone to court...last time it ended in wage garnishment, the amount wasn't that much so it didn't take long...12 grand is way to much to handle it that way.

Waiting has led to collections and this, talking to them basically leads them saying you have to pay this bill or your going to court.

Oh no.... I caught a whole bunch and returned all but one :sob:
I just returned a bunch because the companies in them were ones I had already done and I didn't feel right completing them again even if I was able to accept them. I qualified for 3, and disqualed on 1.

Ooof yeah maybe she needs some serious help with that. Sorry she's going through it. Seems to be an all too common story :(

The thing is, I might be willing to pay the bill if medical companies weren't fucking douches. They won't give you a line by line listing of why that bill is that much you know why? Cause a bandaid is like 75 dollars...they do that shit on purpose then expect people to pay it.

1) Medical bills are stressful and often large, IME they are used to dealing with situations where people can't pay some or all, so they're (the hospital) less stressed than you are and they often have ideas about what to do.

2) Many hospitals have an associated charity organization that pays some medical bills if you qualify by whatever their standards are. Mine does. They're impossibly complicated to deal with but they did pay a big bill for me once, after about 4 months of wrangling.

Ones here suck...they basically just send you to collections and then to court with an attitude of, fuck you pay me.

Oh they are, I know when I went to the walk in clinic when the dog sliced my knuckle open all they did was soak my hand and make me sit in a room while feeding me nonsense information. 50$ copay and the rest of the bill was still upwards of 750$ just for them to let me soak my hand in some pink stuff and to tell me they wouldn't work with my insurance on xrays so hey go to the ER.

Oh totally the costs are horribly inflated, I didn't carry insurance for years as that was a good bit too. Thankfully work takes care of that for me now, not that I use it much. But still every 40 hour week I put in its around 300ish that goes towards that paid by the employer, if it came out of my check I totally wouldn't have it. It's just a good bit of money....

I just don't know where medical companies get off on suing people for their inflated prices.

Yeah, we did that in my hometown. Then they had to insert a curfew because kids got out of hand.
