4. Hard-Boiled Eggs
Directions for the Microwave: Microwave a bowl of water (deep enough to submerge the egg) for 3 minutes until hot. Lightly prick the bottom of the egg with a safety pin or thumbtack (IMPORTANT or the egg will explode). Place the egg into the bowl of hot water, cover with a plate, and microwave at 50% power for 4 minutes. If you like a runnier yolk, remove and peel the egg now. If you want it to be more cooked, leave the egg in the water for 2 minutes.
What Really Happened: The first time we tried this method the microwave was on 100% power and the egg exploded, so really make sure you have it on 50% power. Otherwise, aside from a slight crack in the white, the microwave boiled egg turned out great.
What Our Tasters Said: They loved how the microwave boiled egg developed that "fudgy yellow yolk" and actually preferred it to the stovetop egg. Score two for the microwave!
