Like once a year. And then I constantly ask myself why I wait so long, because I always get annoyed when it grows out, especially since it grows fast anyway.
no wonder stylists charge more for womens' hair you only see them a few times a year. I have to go every 4 weeks or so :p

I really should go at least two to three times. I have no idea why I never do.
Maybe you haven't found the right place. I started to go more often once I found a place I liked with a good stylist who knows what I want based on what i tell them

My advice is to start small. Cut an inch to just get out your nerves, see how it looks, are you freaking out? Stop. Feel okay? Cut another inch. I wouldn't suggest anymore than three inches because you'll want to go back in and edit a bit and it'll just get shorter

My last hair cut was about 6 months ago. It is about maybe an 1" past my shoulders and I've dyed it a dark purple/red. I'm looking to chop off about 2-3 inches because FL gets hot and with my two kiddos I need low maintenance hair. Any reasonable suggestions about color/cut/etc are appreciated... I'm kinda going through a mid-life something ever since my hubby and I officially decided that I will be turking and taking care of the kiddos for at least the next year or two. This allows me some freedom to play around... but at the same time I don't want to look like the psycho Mom when I have to go to the school for my oldest for whatever Lol

Also Drwho10 @Drwho10 they charge more for a bunch of reasons. Allover dye, highlighting, styling, because they can, etc.
oh yeah i can imagine with all that stuff. I know some people just go in for a haircut only though but if its only a few times a year then I can see why they have to charge so much

fast and i don't like it too long cause it get so hot in the sun.
Yeah I feel you on that. I used to have really short hair then i decided on going a bit longer with about 3.5 inches on top and 2 on the sides so I have more freedom with styling. Its short enough for me and my hair grows at a medium pace so it works out to about 3-4 weeks for maintenance

What I always do is chop it off to about my clavicle, thin it out a little, have them give me some nice layers on the side and in other areas and then just straighten it before I go out. I'm about the least stereotypical female you can imagine when it comes to hair (which it maybe why I botched what I did tonight...) and I will not get near high-maintenance cuts. I can show you pictures, if you'd like. I also enjoy having it styled how I do, because if I'm feeling so lazy I don't even want to straighten it, I just throw it up in a pony tail and it's cute since the layers hang down a little on the sides.

I do the same thing. Mine is about 3 inches away from my waist right now. I just wait and wait and wait for some reason.
I did this when I was younger... but I got tired of my two pulling at my hair all the time so I've been cutting it shoulder length or shorter for the last few years.

Didn't know which message to reply to, but I've been cutting my own hair for 5 years now. I've got a haircut that makes it really easy to do though. Put the longer part up in a tiny ponytail, trim the rest with clippers, then once that's done, make some random choppy cuts in the previously ponytailed part of it. Boom. Haircut.
