Was it @Jerami who posted about Appen the other day? I have the test scheduled for next week and I was wondering if anyone has done any work for them could give me any pointers.

It was me. I've got the test too. The work is actually for RaterLabs. Appen is to RaterLabs what MTurk is to Hannah Rashkin. RaterLabs is just a requester and I think this is a new project for them, since the guidelines for the task aren't even accessible yet. So, unfortunately, I don't think we're going to find much usable prep, other than doing the same type of stuff daily on mturk. But, you'll have 6 days to study before taking the test. DM me on Monday, if you want, and we can study/compare notes, etc(if that's allowed. We'll know more when we get the Guidelines). But, yeah Appen has as many varied tasks as Mturk, from various companies https://talent-appen.icims.com/jobs/search?ss=1. So, if anything, I guess you could ask around and see if anyone has done any work for RaterLabs. Good luck!

Anything I've done through Appen in the past was "work when you want". Some specific projects may be more structured but, that's up to the requester/company. Some of them are "real"(scheduled) jobs

EDIT The gigs I've done in the past were a lot like a never ending batch that I could log on and just do. Pretty nice when it's something you like doing.

DBL EDIT The pay isn't as good as mturk, on an hourly basis but, the work is usually more consistent. I did an image classification project for another company through Appen and I could just zone out to music and work. Never had to worry about PRE's or really anything. Just log on and go.

As far as the pay, last few days aside my pay here isn't that great either, and my eventual plan is to have accounts open at 3-4 sources so that if one fails I can work on the other ones without too much pain.

Yw. It's my nature. You can apply to a few different things at Appen. That's what I did. As I learn to code, I'll probably look for other freelance gigs on there in that field. Let me know if I can help.
