The big downfall is I didn't go to work today so I can't pick pizza up on the way home. So now I have to drive 30 plus miles one way to get one...or just eat chips all night.

I always check 6 - but I want to check 7 (I don't because I think they'll look at my income and just shake their heads and assume I'm delusional or stupid).

I guess I feel much more stable than my lack of income indicates - and I should add here, we live well below the poverty line at this point. I think it's just that I have my degrees and I've worked. I feel like this situation will change. I've felt quite hopeless at times for sure - and when I read about people I went to school with doing well (nothing hits your self-esteem than people you considered less smart/talented winning a major award and seeing their picture all over the news or getting their book on Bitlit, I HATE that........sigh). But I know that 'if I ever get out of here' I'll find a job and get back on my feet. I may never get the kind of money or riches that I would have wanted (as a kid . But I'll work a reasonable job and help people (I like what I do, when I'm doing it).

I like your attitude! I always check 4. My income from all sources is above the median for the US (for my family size), however when I compare myself to close friends, who came from a very similar background as me, I look like I'm living on Skid Row. I know I'm not, but in comparison to them we don't have much. Your post is making me reconsider how I judge myself on those ladders! Mebbe I need to jump my little family up a rung.
