I get soooo many emails (and texts lately) telling me there is a problem with my accounts (various ones) I make it a practice to go directly to the account mentioned and checking for any messages re problems or seeing if I can sign in. So far, 100% of the time the messages have been fake!
you even have to watch your smartphone texts. got a text message from a local credit union (not mine and the spelling in the text had the credit union name misspelled). it said my debit card has been locked for security reasons and click the link in the text to unlock it. i deleted that text and blocked the sender from potentially sending me more phishing texts.
