The thing is, running to your kid to baby them everytime they cry honestly teaches them to expect to be coddled from very early in life.

I still deal with teens who want to be coddled, anyone who does that can expect a kid who thinks they should always get what they want.

It certainly can lead to this, but I think it takes a whole lot more than just running to them when they're a baby for them to turn into an entitled teen.

I didn't practice cio (but I don't disagree with it, I just didn't practice it) but I also don't coddle and expected my son (and the other kids I've raised) to learn to deal with their own issues. My son certainly has cio'd when he was a toddler!

I got a lot of grief for this choice from many, but since I don't practice saving his ass or bailing him out he's pretty good at self soothing and solving his own problems and not expecting favors (his history teacher just got to experience my kid having his parent nearby but her refusing to be involved in the issue and letting the two of them work it out. And it's all solved now without Mommy butting in, lol).
