There is a "HIT Abandonment Rate" but very few requesters use it. I'd say just don't make it a habit.

I edit photos and videos for my "day job"... study and do my home work for the classes I'm taking... practice knotwork or some other skill for the next time I'm gonna tie someone up or beat on them... chatting with people when there's someone around who wants to chat... or working on building some new skill for some type of hit I'm not very good at.

Edit: I also practice a lot of new photographic techniques at night too.

Maybe I shouldn't count as a night shift person (it's only when stress about bills gets me out of bed to turk). And I don't have a method. I search for hits I'm eligible for, mostly surveys. I'm not an efficient turker, but I'm going to learn how to be one.
