I think the company operating the fund didn't word things correctly. I would imagine for transparency, it makes sense to have the fund open to anyone to donate, but I doubt they expected anyone to (because if the average person donated everything they owned, it'd be less than a full percent of what Bezos has, which is insane). Optically, it wasn't great, and they should've done more to keep amazon from looking like the bad guy. But yes, I did get heated up before thinking it through. Initially it sounded like a "come donate to help out the employees," and after the initial blowback it became "We aren't asking for donations, but you can still donate if you want to."
