I was raised mostly in Utah and they used to call it pop when I was younger but almost everyone I know now says soda.

Me, too. I mean, I was raised in Seattle where everyone said pop but now everyone I know says soda. And I'm still on the west coast, just more south. I think the word pop is declining in popularity here.
