Anyone got an idea on how to get a gigantic dog to stop freaking out when it thunders? I was suggested melatonin, hoping for something I won't have to go to town for since it hasn't stopped storming :rain:

I have a chinook thats petrified, I started having training sessions with him (excuse for treats), and playing with him during the thunder. It is working, keeping him distracted and I think it's also showing him that thunder isn't always bad.

Our oldest is a rescue and has PTSD from being beaten and get's really anxious when there is thunder or fireworks. She treks around endlessly and pants non-stop.

We have found this helps to take the edge off

https://www.amazon.com/Bach-Rescue-Remedy-Natural-Stress/dp/B0030NWZUC

The humane society by us sells it as well‚ and they generally won't carry snake oil type of products. You cannot apparently overdose on it which is a good thing. It seems to help take the edge off‚ it certainly doesn't totally resolve the issue but it does have varying degrees of calming

HALLELUJAH! It took a few rounds of emails but they DID pay me even after I somehow returned the hit yesterday. Yay for good requesters.

A mutt I was told. I'm dogsitting both for the weekend.. if only the big one was as calm as the little one. The little one is passed out on the couch, and the big one is following me around the house
