It's because otherwise people would deduct their cellphone, their peripherals, their internet, etc. The IRS is pretty serious about the fact that if you have a home office it has to be used exclusively for working. It doesn't count if you even do a majority of the work on it but the rest is leisure time.I'm pretty sure to claim home office stuff, in general, you need to use it primarily for work purposes. They're pretty strict about it.
Then again, I'm a rat giving tax advice.
