I think I lied about this being the batch throttling thing. I don't know why the "request was not successful" thing happens. I'm still blaming "improvements" though.

Is your panda is hanging? If that is the case, then what is happening is it is "queuing" them up and they release all at once every so often which is causing you to get page errors.

I'm not sure what this means but it sounds reasonable. and yes it is hanging. same as with the sergey batches that were panda'd so much they broke mturk 1-2 months ago

I think I lied about this being the batch throttling thing. I don't know why the "request was not successful" thing happens. I'm still blaming "improvements" though.

It only seems to happen on big, popular batches -- so intentional throttling is my guess. Along with the "no more HITs available" when there are HITs deal.
