I don't really can. I did a little when I was little (and my neighbor would can - she used paraffin on the top). Is that what you mean (the old way)? I did can some apple jam last year - and didn't use that. It didn't set the first time (and to do it all over again). Then it did set. (That was just my inexperience)

Thank you. i thought you canned in a pressure cooker. never used one of those but was wondering if they work well. yes, the paraffin on top was how mom did jam and it worked well. but i've read that it's not a good idea today and that canning was best. did see some strawberry jam today at an amish farm that was sealed by canning though i don't know how that was done. didn't buy it though. but canned pickles and salsa instead. mom also cooked everything on the stove, seemed to take hours and it did, when she did tomatoes, etc. she did give way to sterilizing the jars in the dishwasher when those became available instead of boiling them. that helped cut some of the work (and heat).

I've had some issues. Wasn't certain if that was the cause. When I do a Zoom study I routinely shut off all extensions.
