So in my short time turking, I've seen a few batches like these. There was one batch about categorizing movies awhile back and the counter stayed fixed at 20 for the longest time even after I completed about several 100 of them, and after a few days the count finally started going down.

How does the counted work on HITs like these PEP ones? If the number hardly budges, does that mean that there are over 100,000 HITs or something?

There's a certain number of duplicate HITs that are completed by different workers. So, in this case, there's 1118 unique HITs and apparently a shitload of clones of those to gather more responses on each video.

Some batches just upload everything individually, so you see huge batches in which the number fluctuates more frequently
