How does supporting a crowdfunding campaign support the investor? I mean, do I just get a sticker (thanks for donating) - essentially
or a product when it comes out. (I think I'm wondering if crowdfunding is really better than putting my money in a stock, for instance..........).

It depends on the crowdfunding project. For some, you get the physical product (at a reduced price) they're raising money for after the product becomes available. Other times, it's a sticker or thank you note. It depends on what reward levels they have set up.

People with an annual income or net worth below $100,000 can invest no more than $2,000, or up to 5 percent of the lesser of their annual income or net worth. For those who make at least $100,000, the SEC says they can invest 10 percent of either their annual income or net worth
