Oh my gosh I am such a freaking moron...and just so you can all feel better about yourselves in comparison: I thought 'record the given sound' meant they gave us the sound, like in a file, which i thought was a little strange. So I'm freaking out about kids screaming, dog barking when I should have had my stupid cell phone out recording!
