@jan tried my hand at making jam, something i haven't done for decades and never heat processes jam with my mom, always the parafin. but nothing sealed and did try to process with new caps again and still nothing. so, guess i'll freeze it, but it would be nice to know what i did wrong after specifically following the directions.

the only thing I'll get this season fruit wise are berries (and some blueberries). Everything else froze and died a few months ago. Honestly, I flash freeze everything. It's easy, fool proof, and I can use it all winter in oatmeal.

this is a strange summer. we really haven't had one yet. the pool sits pretty much empty this year. i saw one person there yesterday. we do have berries. we're kind of used to late freezes here i guess. last week with all the smoke, my poor indoor kitty started sneezing again. he is on Rx for asthma and we don't really want him to start that again. i'm thinking it was the smoke that crept inside that irritated him. after the smoke came rain, which is good. it was really dry. but it hasn't stopped.
last year i did freeze blueberries and we enjoyed those for a long time. that will probably be the way we'll go this year. i'd like to can some things so will keep trying unless i realize i'm just not going to be successful. jars were new, checked them for nicks. everything was new. but i'm sure after all these years of not doing it, there's a learning curve.
