Transfer to an account that you don't have easy access to. I opened a free Ally account, and cut up my debit card. I use it for savings

Yup, when I want to access that money I either have to transfer it or order a new debit card.

Anything that isn't a necessity I match its price and that goes into savings, so that $7 Burger King becomes $14 now, or that $300 Switch become $600, makes you think harder about spending on stuff. Best way to save is not spend.

I did something similar. Some weeks I transfer it to checking if I need it for something but usually I put it in the Ally account so it's harder for me to spend it.

Figure out what is absolutely a necessity. Anything with a contract/lease/food is a necessity for me. Savings is also a necessity for me so I pay it just like the other necessary bills every month. It is not optional. If I wait until the end of the month I won't have it so I pay it right after the other bills. Then what I have left is for wants.
