So I'm not a techie-type person. My husband's work is offering some really sweet deals on new computers. If you were going to buy a new computer that is used 99% of the time for turking, what would you buy?
A laptop with a good deal of battery life. Enough ram to run a few tabs of chrome without lag (at least 2 gigs), while not compromising battery life. I just built my desktop, and it's perfect besides not being able to take it with me when we have doctors appointments or other things that involve a lot of down time.

I think the problem is that most requesters don't know what the other side of the equation is like. I emailed Freeman Labs yesterday too about paying $1 for a HIT that was an hour long. There was no time mentioned in their HIT and it just KEPT GOING. I was pretty peaved by the end of it. Sad thing is they have a pretty decent TO for some reason.
I would have thrown that shit back after 7 minutes.

[eta] And their TO is pretty terrible? https://turkopticon.ucsd.edu/reports?id=A1AF2RQ8AF79AP

Two monitors is already taken care of. I want faster, but I'm not sure of specs.
I'd have an i5 and a decent gpu in mine, plus good expansion room in the case (more slots) and at least 8 gb of RAM included. I kinda don't like anything that doesn't have room for more than one hard drive at this point, and I like to have a terabyte of space. Turking doesn't require a lot, really, but that's just where I stand on computers.

For sure, but I was under the impression that it wouldn't be that long since the TO reviews were good. I'm just going to block them now.

i5 quad-core, something newer (usually listed as i5-6xxx, you can google the exact models), probably minimum 8 GB of RAM, 16 is a pretty cheap upgrade though. i7 might be worth it if the deals are good.

having a solid state hard drive will help a lot with load times if you keep your OS on it, and get either a second drive or an external for extra storage
