I haven't put much time into this. I had a couple of requesters who were green on TO, red on TV, and the hits were yellow. Or some combination of the three colors. (No colorblind jokes.)

If these are A9's your talking about then they are a precursor to the much more painless "verify" or "yes/no" A9s verifying what is in the bounding boxes. I'd hold-out for those. Easy to do 1000's in the span of a few days.

has anyone figured out why "bounding boxes" have become such a thing lately???? I hate them hah hah

Like @Sciency McScienceface said they are a precursor HIT. A9s are what they said. Otherwise you can think of them as cropping HITs to make the image more usable for some reason.

Sometimes it goes... HIT order
Upload images of XXX(To get images containing XXX)
Is this a XXX?(To verify)
Bounding box.(to crop the image and cut out as much extra as possible) Then you have A9
But then some are next...
Draw an outline around XXX.(This selects just the actual object you are looking for XXX)

Then they can train Google what a dog looks like, because they have a million photos of dogs now. It can extrapolate what may be a dog by comparison, if their algo is correct. It's for making datasets for machine learning. That's how Google knows what's in a photo before it's tagged, for instance.

Then the next batch of HITs, they test it.
It tries to produce a bunch of photos that it thinks that may be a dog, and we correct it.(This is where they refine the algo)
