Yes, that's what it was called when I lived in Texas. (At least in the Panhandle, Texas is a huge place so might not be the same everywhere.)

I honestly had no idea what a studio apartment was until just now because it was always called an efficiency here. (wiki link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_apartment ) I guess it's also called that elsewhere because it even made it into the wiki.
