But after doing it for years, turking somehow still feels 'temporary' to me. It doesn't feel stable or secure and even after making inroads to some of the better stuff on turk (quals, masters, etc.) it still doesn't feel any safer and still feels like hustling every day to make a buck. I mean, can you guys who do this as your job imagine still doing this in ten years?
I can't imagine it, not because I don't think it's possible, but because it's becoming more and more reliant on fewer, older requesters and quals to make money for me. I see and work on less new stuff. So if some of those leave, it'll have a big negative impact and make me less likely to keep going. It feels less like a hustle recently and more like a inevitably downward spiraling grind.

Good morning.

Why?

I've been turking as my basically full time job for a couple of years now (along with other little things here and there, online and off). IMO there are big positives to turking as a job once there's enough income to live off of, but there's also big negatives compared to more normal jobs. Some of my irl friends I complain to who know what I do really well say I should get a different job because the negatives aren't worth it, and then turk as a side thing if I want. But it's hard. No degree and my specialty skillset (which isn't related to computers or the internet) is very particular and there are no jobs anywhere near where I live now that would need it. And it's difficult to put turking on a resume in a way employers would understand or even respect, so I also have what to them would look like an employment gap. So I expect that to find any decent non-turking job would be very difficult at the moment. Because of what I make with turking on average and because with turk I can work extra hours as much as I want to make more if I need it (and because it's easier to make a better hourly on turk the more time you have ready to jump and work the good stuff when it comes along), the job would have to be something I wouldn't hate, not a dead end, and pay at least say $15/hr but preferably more.

I always saw turk as temporary. My personal goal is my own business (entrepreneurship).

It is sad that some employers would view this as an "employment gap". My question to them is how is it employment gap when you are actually making money and being productive the entire day? If an employer viewed Turk (or any other online business ventures) that way, I wouldn't want to work for that person anyway. I personally believe that internet based businesses are the future (really present in a sense) anyway.
