I thought the whole appeal of the instapot was all the other cooking functions it has? I don't know a lot about what you can do with a pressure cooker and have always avoided them because they can explode, so that's why I'm asking

Any time you have a metal enclosure heated under high pressure, it's dangerous, regardless of the safeguards employed. Enclosed+heat=pressure, and pressure can get away from you remarkably fast. Hense, spaghetti on the ceiling. You follow the rules. I used 2 huge pressure cookers for years with no problems. I never left them alone. I watched the gauges. My mom used several smaller ones to sterilize jars for jam. I needed the larger size to sterilize larger jars for sowing orchid seeds. We were pressure cooking fools!
