To beat other people to the punch by acknowledging that it may be a foolish question and cut off others potentially calling them idiots before it starts.

Because they're afraid the answer will be something really simple and basic and they'll feel dumb having asked in the first place. A lot of posters don't have the confidence that comes from members of the community liking the verbal diarrhea we post every day.

The broken ones have raised the hourly on them because you don't need to research them.
