Woke up middle of the night thinking i was gonna die of a heart attack, after feeling like death for 2 hrs while googling what was going on i came to the conclusion that i have GERD. Any good otc meds recommendations ?

Generic Esomeprazole {Nexium, I think}. Best thing ever. I took Zantac for years and this stuff makes Zantac look like tums.

I've taken pepcid quite often. Generic is famotidine. Generic is cheaper and works as good.

I haven't heard that specifically, but most of the GERD meds can cause issues long term. However, as my Doc explained it - it's kinda a rock meet hard place situation. Untreated, the GERD long term can cause stomach cancer, ulcers, dental issues, gallbladder issues, etc. But the treatment long term can cause bone density issues, and liver / kidney stuff. But it's a whole lot easier to treat the problems from taking it vs the problems from NOT taking it. Having had a prior stomach ulcer, I'll take the meds and just monitor for long term damage.

I get where you're coming from and i agree i rather feel better now and worry about the other issues later. Its been a toss up between Nexium , Prilosec and apple cider vinegar although the latter hasn't been proven

My husband had severe GERD. It would come up in his throat and go down in his lungs. He takes famotidine twice a day and rarely has any problems.
