I mean it's totally not one of the cheesiest, cringiest things on tv.
If you don't approach it as if it's going to be a hard-edged, gritty, 100% realistic show, then it shouldn't be cringy at all.
I mean, look at that video of Jervis and Chuck Taylor. They're hamming it up like crazy, but it's entertaining as hell. Chikara, CZW, and PWG have made an art form out of absurdist wrestling. There's a difference between silliness that's not entertaining and entertaining silliness.
And that's completely disregarding the genuine talent that these guys have. Watch an AJ Styles match (from any year) and tell me that he's not a genuinely talented man. Watch ANY Ric Flair promo and tell me that he doesn't have that persona down to a tee. GLOW on Netflix should give you a half-decent glimpse at what wrestling is. And that was wrestling at its most bare-bones and most ridiculous.
Wrestling isn't about serious examinations of the human psyche (though it can be). Wrestling is one part melodrama and one two parts physical performance. Melodrama is *highly* underrated in terms of bringing out genuine emotion, and the physical performances can be evaluated on their own, even without understanding the kind of trust and coordination that goes into a good match. All I'm saying is, I am 100% okay with people not liking wrestling. I get that. I understand that. But it would be a mistake to simply dismiss it out of hand.
