Yesterday, I wrote on the forum about a vague rejection I received from ROC-NLP Research. I forgot to mention that I also emailed them asking for more detailed feedback. Well, they did get back to me later that evening but I didn't get a chance to check my email until now.

Here is the sum of their detailed response below.
"A story isn't just a list of actions. Usually, it involves overcoming an obstacle, a conflict, or observing something unexpected happening, or reaching a certain goal. [Bold emphasis mine]
Your story is similar to the pasta story "I made pasta today. I boiled the pasta. I added water ... etc. " which is basically a list of actions.
You can submit a new story by the end of this week to get it approved.
Let me know if you have other questions."

They also showed me the story which was rejected but they said that they do not have enough space to write all of that in the feedback box on Mturk.

So basically, we have to make sure our story overcomes an obstacle, a conflict, observes something unexpected happening, or reaches a certain goal.

I don't remember if the instructions mentioned that in that exact manner. Maybe it did and I just overlooked it. At any rate, I'll try to rewrite the story they sent me and send it back to them to see if they will reverse the rejection.

Also, I think there is more than one person running that account because the tone of the email is different than the rejection feedback in my humble opinion.

TL;DR : ROC-NLP Research sent me detailed feedback on my rejection. I'll probably rewrite that story later.

Princess Gina Marie @Princess Gina Marie did they ever get in contact with you? IIRC, you said that you sent an email about their vague rejections.

I really admire those of you who write. I drop those so fast and run!

They should really put that in their instructions then. I've done their HITs before and the instructions are much more general than this. I quit doing them after I got a couple of "warnings" that my stories were not exciting enough.

^Here's my problem with this. The first round on Thursday, I got rejections saying I was being too descriptive. I ended up getting 60 rejections for that day's work. After that, I did Friday's very simplified, more MORE like "just a list of actions", to make it less descriptive. They only rejected 10 of those in comparison.

So...if you're not supposed to be descriptive, and you can't write it as a list of simple actions, and you can't say a person's name because they don't like the name (I used normal everyday names of real people so wtf), etc...what are you supposed to do? I also had rejections that stated the stories have to have a conflict and resolution.

I don't believe it was one person, either. The person who contacted me said they had given me "maybe 15 rejections". They also wanted me to rewrite all 70 stories before tomorrow, and said they would "adjust my submissions" if I did, which doesn't sound like overturning rejections, necessarily.

TL DR, I'm just letting the whole thing go and staying away from the story hits.

I think they are confused. I'm like you, I probably won't do anymore of those. I have better things to do like jumping off this cliff LOL:cliff:
