Would there be any practical advantage to updating my https://code.jquery.com/jquery-2.1.4.min.js to a newer version? I normally just leave that one in my template but I haven't looked into whether or not a later version has anything useful in it.

I used to have this guy constantly ask me if there was any advantage to upgrade to a better more expensive camera. For the longest time my answer was something along the lines of "If you haven't been in a situation yet where your knowledge and skill eclipsed the capabilities of your equipment... no, there isn't any advantage for you to buy new equipment." After a while I realized another option might be "if you are asking that question, the answer is no."

jquery 3 is a bit quicker for many operations and a bunch of other stuff that you'd need to look up. @Blue put it right, I use some jq3 stuff in my scripts but you probably will have no use for it.
