I bet they saved a bunch of money, if AMT charged requesters their cut in fractions, as well. It adds up when you post a ton of HITs.
This was before Amazon Payments so you could only use your earnings to buy stuff on Amazon and nothing cost a half a penny there so there was no way to ever get rid of it. I remember a worker with a requester account going around and giving half cent bonuses just to even people out.
I wish I had started back then. I can't find my "start date" but, I signed up wayyyy back, and didn't do a single HIT because there were, maybe, 500 or 1000 HITs posted. I didn't qual for any of them. I just forgot about it, thinking I'd come back in 6 months, and see if they had any more HITs. I ended up forgetting about AMT until I had an unemployment issue for a month, and had to make food money. I thought that I had discovered Mturk for the first time. When I tried to sign up, there was already an account for my email address. I was so confused.
