So I just got a note on the "~ 12 Minute Research Survey ($7.25/hr for 12mins) - Attitudes towards health supplements" HIT saying that I rushed it, but it was approved any way. I really want to know how they determine the times for these things because I did it in 4 minutes without much effort.

"Our pilot tester, a student who's never done a survey before and was forced to do this at gunpoint through tears, took 20 minutes to do this. There's no way you, someone who literally takes surveys all day as part of their actual job, could have beaten that astounding record."

some research assistant in their office probably did it in 12 mins so that's what they think everyone will take

I just sent them a pretty lengthy message explaining the speeds at which "professional" turkers can complete these surveys as well as giving some suggestions on how to setup the survey if they were concerned about the data. Normally I don't, but having someone still pay for work even if they think it wasn't done correctly warranted the additional effort on my part.
