How can I block GIFs / videos that show up directly in posts such as what CindyLoUUWho @CindyLoUUWho just posted ? They really slow down my page load when the are on screen. I have everything else turned off in settings, but these get through. I know it is just me and my UbuntuMate - have a conflict that I'm not worried about cause I'm awitching rigs on the 15th. But still, I need to know.

* switching, not awitching.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that you can. Not with the forum settings, anyway. The forum has a setting to disable IMG tags, but that particular gif was posted with MEDIA tags and there's no setting built in to block those. You would have to make a script to do it, I think. An ad blocker might also be able to do it, but I think it would only apply to the one site that that gif came from.

ticking "spoiler media" in the thread tools blocks them all for me. at least it puts it behind a spoiler so they do not show up.

Thanks aveline @aveline , no worries. I'm running Ubuntu, have ublock - but turned off here. I think my trouble started with an VLC build that gave some conflicts(was trying a different build to get more functionality out of my Chromecast - didn't work. But as I said I'm moving to a newish 'puter soon.

Something like uBlock Origin (Chrome/Firefox extension) would allow you to generally control connections at that level. I think you have to turn on advanced user mode though, haven't played around with it much yet.
