The average annual salary in India is around $1,600 a year and it is one of the cheapest places in the world to live. So a dollar is worth a lot more to a person from India, than it is for an American. Also on surveys you really don't have any choice, they want people from the United States.

The dollar is worth more in some countries and the cost of living is different, so stuff can still be lucrative to them when it's not for us. Many requesters will intentionally post work for people outside of the US so they can get it done as cheaply as possible.
