So.. I have a question.

If a study asks for an email address for either you or your friends, isn't that against the rules for MTurk? Even if the emails are not used for anything but the study?

Just wondering...

They can contact you through the mTurk system like when they send a notice of a hit they want you to do. I just figure it's up to me if I want to use it. If it's an offer of another hit they are dangling and the pay is good, then maybe I'll leave it. But I think many have a useless email that they use for stuff like this.

Oh, I'm sorry. Friends, no, that's not supposed to happen. It does probably mean they are composing an email list. Real surveys who need to do this just as for a first name only so no other identifying info is given.

I did it, but used fake emails for it. I can't say much more about the study without giving away survey data, but part of me wanted to contact the requester because this type of study can hurt his account even if the emails aren't used...
