Best way to post for a data entry job

I'm new to Mturk and this forum. I am wondering what the best way to post a data entry job would be. I'm in need of someone to transcribe results from written surveys into a google form. The surveys have all been scanned into images. Does anyone have any ideas on layout, linking to google forms, pay, etc.?

I don't know much about setting it up from your end (someone with more experience will need to take that on :), but I'll give you the two suggestions that are often best. First, you might want to qualify workers for the task. That way you have a small subset of workers that you consider reliable. I think it's easier to work with a few than a thousand, anyway.

How much data do you have?

The other thing is pay. You really have to try a few and see how long they take. Workers want to make at least minimum wage (as you can imagine). So, it's good to time a few and see how long the task takes.

You might be able to use one of the project templates. Go here: https://requester.mturk.com/create/projects/new and click on "Transcription from an image" on the left side. In this example, you'll see a photo and some text fields below that workers would transcribe parts of the image into. If you want the transcription text put into a Google Form instead, you could put a link to the Google Form below the image instead of having text fields like the example shows.

Thank you! We have about 600 written survey images total. 300 of two different survey's. It takes about 45 seconds to enter each survey. Thoughts?

Make sure you also take into consideration the time it takes a worker to accept the task, review the instructions, click through to the Google Forms link, let that page load, enter the data (45 seconds here), submit the form, go back to MTurk, and submit the task.

So many times I have lost hits due to timing. One of the latest was a 30 minute hit with 8 articles to be read closely and an opinion given. Then after a product review, followed by a political opinion, followed by another product review then demographics. The articles alone took up nearly the entire 30 minutes if they were to be read closely. If not for reading, The hit would have done on time. It can be frustrating to take all that time and see you did the whole hit and can not now be paid for it.
