I've always been puzzled why Amazon chose the Mech Turk, which was a hoax. He was an oversized puppet. Says something about us.

I've always been puzzled why Amazon chose the Mech Turk, which was a hoax.

Because it was artificial artificial intelligence, which is what Amazon Mechanical Turk's tagline is. It's presented as if it's automated and works as if it was magic, but it's actually humans inside doing the work.
