Good luck :o Make up scares me. I was gonna buy a few things to play around with and then there were like a million things and I was like...nope. nevermind. Is there anyone here who doesn't find makeup stuff really overwhelming and scary who could maybe answer a question or two for me? I'm dipping my toe in and I'm having trouble figuring out how to get started...
That's exactly the problem I'm running into! I feel like I can't handle more than five... maybe six things. Yeah. That's a good number. Six makeups, please. Any more and I start to get very, very insecure.Good luck Make up scares me. Yessssssss
distract me
That depends on what sort of looks you go-to. But for basic leave-the-house-looking-less half-asleep-mom...
Okay, so say you're just starting out and don't want to spend a million bajillion dollars on a thousand different products. Are there any go-to things I should get that I absolutely can't do without or that are flexible enough to use in a few different ways? I have a liquid foundation that works well for me, and I'm good for mascara, but I have no idea where to go from there...
YEssssssssssssThat depends on what sort of looks you go-to. But for basic leave-the-house-looking-less half-asleep-mom...
- concealer... basic for under-eye, brightens up the face, makes you look not dead. Even if you don't do the whole contouring thing. (Maybelline Age-Rewind is good for all ages despite the name, has a creamy, easy to blend texture that covers super well, but can also build up.)
- Eyeliners... easy to play around with to get different looks. Cheap af. Pencils for waterlines, smuding, etc. Very versitile. Can be smeared to be used as a shadow. Basic black gel liner is a staple for me, can be smokey if you smudge before it dries, A+ winging capabilities, staying power of a gobstopper.
- Basic neutrals eyeshadow palette. Urban Decay is everyone's top choice, but I think (even as an UD fan...) it's overrated. There are many more affordable ones now-a-days that perform just as well, or outperform. (Mine from w7 is fucking fantastic, it's on Amazon...) The basic shades are there for lids/crease/highlight etc in any combination you can think of. Once you get how you like to apply down, then experimenting with colors is easier. Plus, a neutral eye never is unfashionable, clashes with your clothing, and sometimes you just need to get out of the house with a "no-makeup" look to hide that you have children/stress/no sleep/etc.
- Everyone swears by bronzer for the not-looking-dead too. But I'm the color of glow-in-the-dark milk, so I've not found one I can wear naturally looking yet
Honestly, almost ALL gel liners are the same. Even the cheap-ass from China ones on ebay. ELF's is nice, easy to find, cheap.YEssssssssssss
Do you have a specific black liner you like?
Any tools you like to use?
Thank you thank you thank you <3 <3 <3Honestly, almost ALL gel liners are the same. Even the cheap-ass from China ones on ebay. ELF's is nice, easy to find, cheap.
Basic tools I reach for on just daily looks- a beauty-blender-type sponge, basic flat eyeshadow brushes, a wide and a narrow one, an angled "crease brush", a fluffy blending brush, stiff angled brush for my brows (they still haven't grown back well- I gotta put them on before I leave...), a thin eyeliner brush. ELF has a nice, tiny, angled at the neck one, it gives good results. I have multiple eyeliner brushes- but with that one I can do both thin, tight to the lashline lines, and draw/fill in a winged look. No matter what powder/blush/bronzer/contouring looks you go with/brushes work best for you- a big-ass fluffy brush for dusting away excess powders and eyeshadow fall out. A spoolie or eyebrow brush is good too, even if you don't use product in yours, combing/brushing them can make a world of difference.
I have a million brushes, maybe two million, but I do more than basic shapes and looks when I feel better mentally.
