I don’t think this new payment change is that huge of a deal. just going to have people budget and plan more if anything
I don't really disagree with you, but I'm a pessimist and just see the potential problems that can arise with an overhaul of how it's done right now. A month into the change I'm sure we'll all forget this even happened (unless people have issues with their payment lol)

Now if that email said Amazon was doing away with actual payments and just transferring earnings into Amazon giftcard currency.... then I would quit mTurk forever

I'm completely unconcerned about the change, as long as when it set it up, it works right.

The only thing i just thought of is, i normally set aside tax money in a separate savings account each time i transfer. Since its transferring automatically it will be easier to forget to do that now, but meh, i'll get used to it.

It’s the loss of control and reacting to change that have people nervous or disliking the idea. And I understand that :, change sucks
I think it's just really scary for people that might have unpredictable financial situations and are already living day to day. Especially since a lot of people on here seem to be taking care of kids on their own or have medical issues and stuff, you never really know when an emergency could come up.

People that work normal jobs where they get paid weekly or bi-weekly generally have some options available to them in the case of emergencies like that. Many places that I've worked at would offer advances on pay if people needed them, and payday loan type places are usually an option as well. Turkers that are already stuggling probably don't really have options like that available to them. I feel for those people that are really going to be affected by this. It's shitty.

But as for myself, personally, I'm kinda in the same boat you are, I guess. It's an inconvenience, for sure, but my financial situation is pretty stable for the most part, so I'll just have to plan a little better than I have been.

I agree with everything you said here. and yeah the turkers who are already struggling financially will be affected the most indeed. I’m guessing Amazon is doing this probably because of what cyberwasp @cyberwasp said earlier. the payments mishap from earlier this year. I also read a comment saying how maybe this is due to tax purposes. how some people maybe weren’t being 100% truthful and not reporting all of what they made from mTurk. now with mTurk rolling out this new payment schedule... all these direct deposits will be traceable now. whereas people maybe using Amazon Payments for things and not their bank accounts. I don’t even know if I’m making sense at the moment.

this is kinda how I felt once the announcement came down on the new worker site was going to happen. I was actually more nervous then because that actually affected my workflow for a little bit getting use to the new look and feel. whereas this doesn’t really change anything for me. it sucks to not have the freedom to withdraw everyday, but eh :,

they are taking away turkers option to withdraw money at any time?

:banghead:

At every chance they get, they actively make it harder for their workers

Sure there are benefits to the new system which will help people budget better but

The old system is working and is more convenient for a ton of people

I agree that what’s in place now is more convenient. It is.
I’m just trying to find the positives.

I understand where you’re coming from and I do agree with you.

just like I understand why you picked Emma Roberts in the poll

The beauty of a poll that lasts days is that you can change votes a lot.

Yea but then the workforce would die off heavily and you would make 5x as much when the 50/hr+ batches hit, and then you could sell the things you bought off Amazon for cold hard cash.
