Just in case anyone was really interested in the Sudbury School's - I kept posting the wrong articles. Here is the right one (a great article):

https://www.theatlantic.com/nationa...omework-would-you-send-your-kids-here/265354/
While I'm fine with alternative schools and it'd probably help some because of how slow she does things. She's also been taught being slow gets her out of doing things, early in school teaches wouldn't make her do as much so now when they do she thinks they're being assholes to her.

The part that really concerns me is that the only thing she is really into is starting at her phone all day because "snapchat" is this what kids these days do?

Not a parent, but maybe let them fend for themselves? Some folks don't learn unless reality forces them to
Well my older daughter already moved out and is trying to fend for herself IE mooching off boyfriends family. Apparently our few rules were just to many.

I'm not sure how to make a 14 year old fend for herself though.

I can really only answer this by saying some kids just like being difficult and pushing back. Our youngest is 14 and pushes back on EVERYTHING, and it gets old really fast and really leaves you with a sense of "I don't know what to do with you"

Like for example she will not do school work she routinely fails at least 3-4 classes every semester and the ones she passes are barely. When doing chores she will take hours to do a 15 minute task, act like she shouldn't have to do it etc etc. Me and her mom are both basically at the end of our ropes with her. You legit hit a point of "if you don't care then I don't care" punishing her then just becomes punishment for us that kinda thing. Then our son gets grounded for having a bad grade and he's like ''This is not fair"

Kids can really make life difficult if they want, what she has taught me is you can try as much and as hard as you want. Have the best intentions really want to help or change things and at the end of the day if the kid is unwilling to work with you, there is nothing you can do. After years of it you really hit the point of I guess there's not much I can do because grounding and yelling etc etc nothing works it just gives the parents stress as she continues to not care. This kid wanted to drop out of school at 12, I know her future is just very poor looking and I've tried to talk to her about this because she just ignores us, "I'll live you with you forever" is what we get back.

It's really sad honestly.
I'm a social worker and I see this all the time. Everyone assumes parents etc... but in my experience sometimes kids are just who they are, no matter what we say to them. Everyone is different, and I try to raise my kids with that perspective, how I parent one is not necessarily how I parent another. We have the same expectations, but one might need a harsh stance while another is far more sensitive etc... We can only try to equip them to be good people and give them the opportunity to succeed, at the end of the day they leave us as mini adults who still have to choose to take those opportunities we provide for them and make something of it :)

When my son uses her as an example of how things aren't fair for him I think I have probably said at least 50 times to him "I expect more from you" or "you have goals you want to reach" After a few minutes of that he quickly understands why his standard is different.

Which once again got us no where with the main issues, both girls have this, how do you give someone motivation or drive or desire when they just frankly have none?
No clue about ODD but I have ADHD, which does not provide a "lack of motivation or desire" so much as extreme difficulty in pushing through with intentions.

For example, I could have every intention in the world of writing a book (something I am very interested in) and still be unable to do it. Medication might be the key there, but I haven't gotten on it myself so I have no clue. That said, your daughter isn't going to grow out of these things. At least, ADHD doesn't work that way...So medication might be the best answer for her to live a successful life. My parents tried medicating me for my ADHD when I was a child but stopped it over fear. I wish they would have continued to have me on it, because basically throwing their hands up and acting like there was no "solution" to my problems did not help me.

Now I am 25 and still having to deal with the consequences of that. I know it might be tough with your daughter(s), but don't give up :(
