Just got a call that I filed my taxes fraudulently and to call them back immediately or risk punishment.

I didn't file taxes.

That is a scam, don't call them back.

I used to explain to people about turk and what I did for a living. I stopped that awhile ago and now just give a vague answer about working for companies on the internet. I don't care if they know what I do, but the problem is everyone and their mother wants to do it when you tell them what it is, and they want you to be their personal coach and spend a lot of time explaining everything to them. And then a week or two later they all say they can't make any money and it's terrible and then go tell everyone what a terrible awful menial place this is that I work at and how could any sane person do that for a living.

I still have certain family members who got wind of what it was before I stopped telling people who still needle me to tell them all about it.

At this point I just say "I work for Amazon"

Anytime I try to explain what I do to make money I either get the people who want to do it or I get hit with the "that's not a real job" 'You just sit at home" or it even goes to "good luck when you get old and have no retirement"

It's really annoying.

I freelance write as my main source of income. I've been doing it for eight years and do pretty well with it. For the past five years, every six months or so an acquaintance will ask me for step by step instructions on how "do writing online." It frustrates me to no end because a. they assume that the only requirement is doing okay in their high school English classes and b. I don't even know how to do writing online, I just messed around and made it work.

Started really turking a year and a half ago. Have told 3 people about it. They all responded exactly the way you described. I just don't talk about work anymore.

Some scammers did this to my mom. Threatened to have her arrested if she didn’t pay them immediately. Glad I was there when that happened.

I've generally found the easiest way to have the conversation is to say that I work as an online freelancer through crowdsourcing and other platforms, that leaves most people not knowing shit and not asking anymore questions.

I just get irked when family members ask me to do a million different things because they think that all I do is stay at home and take care of my son. No, I do actual work for wages, and since I set my own schedule, it does not mean I'm your sitter when school is out or driver to take your kids to/from.
