Your average i5 laptop is kind of run of the mill, but it'll do mturk stuff nicely. Check for similar specs such as this:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/487762/Inspiron_15_5570_156_Laptop_Computer_-_Silver

I usually encourage people to actually play around with one in person because of the screen - both for quality and the type of coating used (matte or glossy.) 'cuz your'e going to be spending hundreds of hours staring at the thing and it'll suck if it doesn't suit you.
I wish my screens were matte:(

So dumb question for you (or anyone) - does brand matter much when picking out a laptop? Or does it really come down to the individual components?
I think it does to a degree, like I won't buy acer products.

Nah, the manufacturing game is a sham. Oh, and avoid Lenovo. They look like a good deal, but come with so much bloatware that it's not even worth it.

There's a place in Arkansas that tries to do 'hobbit' caves. My friend stayed in them and she said it was amazing.

https://www.estreehouses.com/eurekaspringshobbit/caves.html

Eureka Springs is beautiful too. They have a big cat sanctuary that was so much fun to go to. My son loved it.
Brb, gotta go plan a trip to Arkansas...

There's a business in my state that builds Hobbit hole playhouses. I'm already dreaming about where I'm going to put Eowyn's...

screenS?

HOw many screens does everyone use when they turk??
I have a second monitor (really just a small TV with an HDMI plug) hooked up to the main PC. I also use a laptop to run most scripts, so I can work on nonturk things and not miss anything.

Lenovo is one of those that you better know something about a computer if you buy it because it'll need maintenance right out of the box.
Haha, yeah... a poor decision involving a Lenovo a couple years ago is a big reason why I'm in my current situation.

Kinda partial to Dell. Was turking on a really old inspiron with minor problems for years. Was easy to upgrade the cpu and HD.

Got a newer inspiron i5755 with 6gb and I have no complaints
