It took me some getting used to but I think it's gotten a lot better than when I first played it in the beta.

I always mean to try it but somehow just miss the free trial every year. And I can't bring myself to pay 20 for the base game for a free to play game that I'm not sure I'll like.

You can get it for cheaper, I think I paid $12. I'd say it was totally, totally worth that, though it does of course depend what you're looking for in a game.
