So, completely unrelated to work griping. We've been having a weird, unpleasant smell in our apartment for weeks, got the owner to call a pest control place and the guy comes goes into the crawlspace and says there's a broken sewage pipe underneath the building. Fantastic.

Next day plumber comes out and looks under the house and says "yep, you're going to need to call another company to come drain this". Yes, thanks, we knew that and you should have as well since we told you about the pool of literal crap forming under the building, but thanks for the input I guess.

So the guys come to do the pumping, are very professional and pleasant, then when they give the owner the estimate he says he's going to shop around and sends them away.

So we've got a lake of sewage forming under our building and the owner is dragging his feet on it to save 10 bucks. And we get to have another crew come in here later today to check it out and give him a new estimate.

Yeah, so. Um.

Owner cannot drag his feet for long. This is a habitability issue (not to mention a health concern, as until it is fixed more sewage will keep showing up).

It HAS TO BE cleaned up by a company licensed to deal with biohazards. Not just cleaned up but inches of dirt removed and the entire area dried out properly. Hopefully a plumber can stop the leaking in the meantime, otherwise this will be a tricky project. A regular joe-schmo plumber is not qualified to remove the raw sewage and certify the area is now free of the harmful bacteria sewage contains.

If your landlord attempts to hire some random company to fix this, and not a "remediation" company let me know. You have rights. I am a landlord but this (cough) shit pisses me off when other landlords do it. This is going to cost him a few thousand dollars, no avoiding it, and dragging it out will cost him even more. I pray this never happens to me personally but if it does I'll be all over it immediately and not drag it out as I have seen what happens when landlords do.

I had no idea. I've only done 25 of their HITs, but today is the first day I've gotten that notification. It's just strange because almost all the pins in the group were obviously irrelevant to the category. Not a lot to misinterpret.
