We do that in the far north, as well. I hated it as a kid. You'd get settled in the car, then it would be another 2 hours while mom would alternate each step with another 5 minute conversation. By the time I got fed up and got out of the car, mom would say, "Alright, hop in the car. We're going."

Another 20 minutes later we'd leave.

EDIT I thought it was just my family that did it.

Someone told me once when I was young that your "self" never really changes much as you get older, they were right.

If your profile is accurate, yes. But, I also stopped aging or maturing around 27. I turned 42 2 weeks ago.
