It's true. But I think the article is mostly about survey's - and mturk has restricted accounts enough that - the majority of those (I would think?) are in the US.

Thankfully they cut me off of the survey so I couldn't get a rejection. I went back to that page (but not finish or submit the survey) to read it out of curiosity. I need more coffee haha

I did that yesterday on one of the HITs it said 9-7 and I put in 16 :tearsofjoy:. It then said I missed the check and couldn't do the HIT. I was so confused and then it dawned on me that I was to subtract not add. I had just finished a HIT prior and had done 50 addition questions so my mind was still focused on adding and not subtracting.

LOL, I can't. Blocked, even though I had never actually completed a single one of their HITs!

Something like 2 years ago, there was a script for clearing CAPTCHAs and a large number of people used Copytext, Inc HITs to do so, since they were underpaid and would arbitrarily reject, yet the HITs were quick to load. I vaguely recall warnings going out across the forums by users who started getting banned for accepting their HITs for clearing CAPTCHA and then promptly returning them.

I missed the warning and got blocked. Probably accepted/returned a few 1000's of their HITs but never submitted a single one.

Oh wow! I think I will steer clear of these now.

. . . Never run a study on Saturday on MTurk. Yes, there are bots. Check the latitude and longitude and you will find the location of the bot and delete all the data at that location. I also used open-ended questions, and verified that the group from this location was providing the same all caps nonsense answer. Also, I have had the most trouble using hyperbatch on TurkPrime. It seems that the bots find a way to enter each batch. MTurk is not bad, but we all need to be very very careful to screen out the cheaters.

Wish it was that simple. Had an FTP protocol running on a data analysis computer for years, and if I didn't change any security time-out settings, there'd be anywhere from 10 to 100 bot attempts to brute-force guess the password, and each password guesses came from a different IP address, and therefore the long/lat would be different. Unfortunately it's super easy for malicious people using bots to spoof all of that info.
